I’m sure a lot of you remember the original “We Are The World” recorded in 1985 for African famine… well now Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie have gathered a new group of celebrities to record for the songs 25th anniversary to benefit the Haiti Relief Fund. The original that was written by Micheal Jackson and Lionel Richie made more than $63 million.
While I am sure that this will bring money to the Haiti Relief fund, I just don”t understand why anyone would remake something that had such a specific purpose and relationship to something else. The original “We Are The World” is a classic and to have a whole new group of artist come with a remake is kind of corny and boring, to say the least. I do understand that it is for a good cause and I think that it will generate money for that reason and that reason only.
I’m just trying to figure out why someone didn’t come up with something new and original. All I’m saying is “We Are The World” has already been done. I’m sure that a lot of celebrities signed on to feel like they are contributing in some way but I hope that they are considering the other ways that they can contribute that have more to do with digging in their own pockets and putting on gloves than singing.
With that being said…regardless of how how corny it may be I truly hope that the “We Are The World 2010″ raises lots of money so that the cleaning and reconstruction of Haiti can finally begin. I pray that months from now this will still be relevant and everyone will continue to donate and come together to help the people of Haiti through their devastation.

As much as I may agree with your post, how are you helping the matter? I bet no proceeds from this site go to any Haiti relief so where’s the love
I agree, another point I want to make to the person who commented first, Where is the love to the homeless and hungry here in our own country. This country is always first to the aid of people of other nations, and we are expected to. Nobody comes to the aid of our impoverished! Also, a blogger who makes no money from this site is being criticized because she didn’t like the lack of originality in ways to help, that also makes no sense. people from FrontStreet Records have given money to the Haiti relief fund through the text message option. So be a little more careful on how you criticize and in what you choose to criticize about.
Thanks so much for clarifying that Will. To the person that commented first I would just like to say that the purpose of my blog was to give my opinion, not to talk about how much FrontStreet Records donated to the Haiti Relief Fund…therefore what you were saying is completely irrelevant. If you don”t agree it’s fine but please don’t comment critically against this site unless you have facts to back it up. Thanks so much for reading my blog and taking the time to comment… I hope to hear from you again:-)
