This is a message to all you Blackberry’s and iPhone’s; Prepare for some serious competition!
Jan 5 marks the day that Google inc. released the highly anticipated Nexus One smart phone in an attempt to level the playing field in the billion dollar wireless phone industry.
So what’s the big deal?
Well, certainly the big deal for google is that now they will be able to gain some market share in this highly competitive business. But why should the consumer be excited? Well, for starters, the Google Nexus one phone has a very high-resolution OLED touchscreen that is actually thinner than it’s arch enemy (iPhone). This phone also has two mics, with one on the back to eliminate background noise. What else? A very large camera and a voice to text option which allows you to handle emails and notes by speaking into the phone.
We could go on all day about all the technical mumbo jumbo of this new force in the wireless world, but your probably more concerned with the cost and network coverage. If you buy the phone unlocked without a contract it will run you about $530. With a 2 year agreement from T-Mobile it will cost about $180 and Google revealed that they will soon have the Nexus One Smart Phone available on other networks. We all know the success that Google has had on the world wide web; let’s see if they can repeat it here.
