DMX is back in jail! The rapper started serving a 90 day sentence on Monday after violating probation for several offenses. The 39-year-old turned himself in this afternoon at a Los Angeles courthouse  from where he was  transported to county lockup.

Earl Simmons, better known as rapper DMX, has been in and out of jail several times in the last couple of years. Back in 2002 he plead no contest to reckless driving. More recently he spent 90 days in jail after drug possession and animal cruelty.

Reportedly the judge asked for a psychological evaluation and it was made clear that he could not serve his time on house arrest or work release.

Jay-Z Debuts The S. Carter Tennis Shoe

Rapper/ Mogul Jay-Z is suing Boston Red Sox’s David Ortiz  for naming his Santo Domingo nightclub after his chain of 40/40 nightclubs. Jay-Z has clubs with the name in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. The suit was filed on Thursday at Manhattan Federal Court.

Ortiz is accused of naming his club 40/40 in an effort to gain business using Jay-Z’s fame. Reportedly Jay is seeking $5 million in damages and for Ortiz to forfeit any use of the name 40/40. Ortiz insists that his club is named after his hitting 40 homers and stealing 40 bases in one season. However, Ortiz has visited Jay-Z’s 40/40 club several times and was fully aware of the name.

Obviously, Jay-z  is not doing this for the money, the man is a millionare, but I think that this has more to do with principle.  Ortiz should have used a little common sense before going through with that. Kudos to Jay-Z for stepping up to claim what is his. Some may argue that this petty  but I agree with Jay-Z on this one. I’m sure that this Ortiz guy knew that naming his club 40/40 would have people thinking that Jay-Z had something to do with it. Regardless of his reasons for giving his club the same name, I’m not buying it. I think that Jay-Z has every right to the name and Ortiz needs to pay just like anyone else that wants to put Jay-Z’s name on something.
