Recently rapper Nicki Minaj did an interview with Honey Magazine to talk about her new album Pink Friday, scheduled to hit stores Nov. 23rd.  In the interview she explains that she thought about pushing her album release date because she didn’t think that she had a big enough fan base.

Hmmm… let’s calculate this:

Over A Million Twitter Fans + Featured On 11 Records That Made It To The Billboard Charts+ BET and MTV Award Nominations = A Big Enough Fan Base. Not to mention, she did all of this with no album released.

Here’s what she had to say:

“People act like I have this really big buzz but I don’t really see it. To be honest, it’s not as big to me as people act like it is. I have to do so much work to promote – more work than other people because people expect me to lose. They think I’m one-dimensional a lot of times…I don’t think people see me as a musician, they see me more as a character and sometimes that is not a good thing. A lot of artists say they want my buzz but I don’t think that buzz is directly related to my music. I think once that album comes out, you guys will understand me as a musician”.

Well, I can honestly say that I am a huge Nicki Minaj fan and I haven’t come across many people that don’t like her music. Even some of the hardcore Lil’ Kim fans can’t help but give her props, despite the so-called “beef” between the two. I don’t know how she can’t see that she’s a big deal but I’m pretty sure that any doubts will be gone after her album drops in November.

I must say that I loved Nicki Minaj’s acceptance speech at the BET Award. Although it’s obvious that her words were directed to Lil’ Kim, she could have easily taken another route. I’m lovin the positivity!

“Thank you to Queen Latifah because you know what, earlier we were rehearsing and she gave me so much positive energy. I think it’s so important right now for positive energy among women because I’m fighting for women. This is not for me, this is for all of us!!! So thank you all the female rappers that paved the way for me. Thank you Deb. I see you baby! Let’s go

Drake Has Nicki Minaj’s Back and Doesn’t Care What Lil’ Kim Thinks

So… now the females are taking it there. Can I really stand another childish beef about who is better? Friday night Lil’ Kim called in to Philly’s The Beat with Kendra G to let everyone know why she has issues with Nicki Minaj. That same night Drake and Nicki Minaj performed in Hartford, CT for 93.7 Hot Jam. Immediately after they performed ‘Bedrock’ Drake looked at the crowd and had this to say:

He asked, “ Can I say something in front of Hartford?” he continued, “ I know you be calling women b*tches in sh*t but I can’t say you the baddest b*itch. I can’t do that because I respect you, I love you too much and you look too beautiful. So I just wanna say you the baddest WOMAN to do this rap sh*t. I don’t give a f*ck what Lil’ Kim or nobody else is talking about, you’re the baddest chick to ever do this sh*t!”

Reportedly Nicki turned around laughing and gave him a big hug. Drake then told her that he loves her and left the stage.

Awwwwww…that was so sweet! Somehow I knew Drake was a sweetheart. I’m not going to read too much into this and say that Drake has something for Nicki Minaj and I’m just going to assume that he genuinely loves Nicki Minaj, they spend a lot of time together and when that happens you either love someone or hate them. Either way it was very sweet to speak up for his label mate cause he definitely didn’t have to. I’m just trying to figure out why Lil’ Kim is stooping to that level…she is really too old for that craziness!

Ciara’s “Ride” Video Banned?

Singer Ciara arrives at Mr Chow for dinner with gal pal Kim Kardashian

Reportedly BET is not a big fan of Ciara’s new video and is banning it from their network.

According to her fan site:

“Although fans were already skeptical about BET being the only network that had not premiered Ciara’s “Ride” video, it was not until last night that fans were TRULY enlightened. During Ciara’s Ustream chat, Ciara’s grandma, Grandma Gladys, let a “cat out of the bag”. Ironically, though many “non-family friendly” music videos have been shown on the channel in the past, “Ride” has not been accepted onto the network.”

I’m not surprised…I heard through the grapevine that BET was trying to filter it’s material a little more. While there at it they should consider Nicki Minaj’s video for “Massive Attack”. I’m a huge Nicki Minaj fan but if they ban one they have to ban them all. If I remember right I think BET tried to pull this before but it didn’t leave them with very much. I don’t know…I kind of have mixed feeling about this one.
