Off Court At The 2010 Australian Open

I was so impressed when I read this story in a  recent issue of  Jet magazine. Apparently Serena Williams is enrolled in a 240 hour program to become a nail technician in West Palm Springs, FL.  She has plans to launch her own nail care collection with Nail Tech, the same company  responsible for pushing ”the best hair extensions”, with Paris Hilton.

“Don’t be surprised if you hear about a part-time job I’ve picked up at a local nail salon,” she wrote on a recent blog for Global Grind.

We all know that Serena is no stranger to stepping outside the box and taking the lead. In 2004 Serena  launched her own fashion line, cleverly named Aneres (Serena spelled backward) which caught worldwide attention. In August 2009, Serena and sister Venus made history when they became part owners of the Miami Dolphins, making them the first African American women to own part of an NFL franchise.

It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity really getting into what they are selling. A lot of the time you see celebrities putting their names and faces on products that they either know nothing about or just don’t care about. It’s obvious that Serena is in this for more than just money.  Kudos to her for being humble and taking it a step further.

Sooo…Would you let Serena Williams do your nails? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Steelers vs. Dolphins

Pat White, meet Ike Taylor. With 2:05 left in the third quarter of the game between the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rookie quarterback, Pat White from West Virginia, was slobber knockered by Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor. The scary helmet to helmet tackle left White motionless for a few moments while the training staff and medical team tried to address the injury. Everyone in Land Shark Stadium let out a collective gasp when the hit occurred, as they also let out a sigh of relief when White regained motion while lying on the ground. Though White was carted off with his head and neck stabilized for precautionary purposes, White did not suffer any paralysis or spinal injury according to ESPN reports. White did suffer a concussion and is recuperating.

White was the second quarterback which the Steelers knocked out of the game. Chad Henne was sidelined in the game from an eye injury.

The Steelers won the game 30-24 but were eliminated from the playoffs with Baltimore’s win over the Oakland Raiders.
