Recently Toure of Fuse TV had an opportunity to sit down with Lauryn Hill to speak about her absence from the music industry and her decision to return. In the interview she speaks about everything from her comeback to being a stay- at- home mom. Below are a couple of excerpts:

On Her Absence & Her Decision To Return
It was a good timing, my daughter is 2 and a half now. So I was a stay-at-home mom. Making sure that my kids has normalcy, privacy, and the right to be real people, without the scrutiny and the pressure of the challenges that the media puts up. I wanted them to have a real childhood. And I wanted a real life as well. Out of public scrutiny, I wanted to be able to live. To reclaim my private life, to reclaim my individuality out of the mass media scrutiny. I wanted to have that freedom, to do whatever I wanted to do. And I absolutely got it back!

On Her Comeback
I think I’m ready to express myself again. You have to live life so you have something substantial to share or its kind of pointless and vain. I don’t think I ever did music for attention or to just be seen, I did it because it simulated me. I was excited about the challenge of the challenges of making music. I have a pioneer spirit and when you can’t do that because you feel a certain amount of claustrophobia, to me it felt a little counterproductive. So I needed to make my own space again.

On Whether She’ll release another album
Maybe. Maybe some new recordings. In terms of the context that they come out in, I’m free. I’m a free spirit. We are a real spontaneous group right now. We vibe out and we do things. I like immediacy in ideas and inspiration. And I like to capture that. It took me a while to find good people who were up to the challenge When I was younger, they use to call me an old soul, and it was important for me to find other old souls; both in music and the support team behind the music. It had a lot to do with me getting back to the very essence of why I made music in the first place.

On Her Music
To me [music] it’s transitional. It’s expressing the moment. And the question is do I capture that and give that to the public even though I may be past or beyond that woman. Does it still hold value? Is it still important to people even though I may be beyond that particular moment

I’m such a huge fan of Lauryn Hill and I am so excited to hear her music. I still blast ” The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in my car faithfully. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us.

T.I. and Tiny Arrested for Possession Of A Controlled Substance

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

According to TMZ.com rapper T.I. and his wife Tiny were pulled over after making an illegal U-turn on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood last night. The police claim that they smelled marijuana so they conducted a search of their vehicle and allegedly found ecstacy. Both T.I. and Tiny were handcuffed and taken away. The pills are now being tested and the couple was released this morning.

That’s not it…there are rumors swirling that the couple was also sipping on sizzurp. For those that aren’t familiar with sizzurp…it is basically juice mixed with codeine syrup. It is extremely popular in the south has become a growing problem.

I really thought that T.I. learned something from recently spending time behind bars. The most ridiculous thing is…he is still on probation!  He has to know by now that being a celebrity doesn’t  mean that you won’t get caught.  C’mon people we have to do better than this!

I found this on Rap Radar and really wanted to share this with u:

Dear Dana,

I’ve never lost a parent, a friend, or a lover but I will never forget this day for the rest of my life. I remember getting the news that you had passed and it connected with my heart like a clean shot from Muhammad Ali. I was crushed. Not only was I one of your biggest fans but I was truly in love with you. I loved the way you carried yourself, the way you dressed, the confidence with which you addressed passion and relationships in your music. I said to myself that even if we never met, I wanted a woman in my life just like you. I am pained that we will never get to connect now that music ended up being my career path. But you should know, we all listen to you everyday and we remain inspired and moved by all that you’ve given the world. I hope I make the right life choices so I can end up in heaven where I know you rest your head. I’ll continue to make music in your honor until the day we finally meet. Dinner’s on me!

Love you always and forever,

Drake

Awww!!! Drake never ceases to amaze me…he is such sweetheart!

Nicki Minaj Doesn’t Think She’s A Big Deal?

Recently rapper Nicki Minaj did an interview with Honey Magazine to talk about her new album Pink Friday, scheduled to hit stores Nov. 23rd.  In the interview she explains that she thought about pushing her album release date because she didn’t think that she had a big enough fan base.

Hmmm… let’s calculate this:

Over A Million Twitter Fans + Featured On 11 Records That Made It To The Billboard Charts+ BET and MTV Award Nominations = A Big Enough Fan Base. Not to mention, she did all of this with no album released.

Here’s what she had to say:

“People act like I have this really big buzz but I don’t really see it. To be honest, it’s not as big to me as people act like it is. I have to do so much work to promote – more work than other people because people expect me to lose. They think I’m one-dimensional a lot of times…I don’t think people see me as a musician, they see me more as a character and sometimes that is not a good thing. A lot of artists say they want my buzz but I don’t think that buzz is directly related to my music. I think once that album comes out, you guys will understand me as a musician”.

Well, I can honestly say that I am a huge Nicki Minaj fan and I haven’t come across many people that don’t like her music. Even some of the hardcore Lil’ Kim fans can’t help but give her props, despite the so-called “beef” between the two. I don’t know how she can’t see that she’s a big deal but I’m pretty sure that any doubts will be gone after her album drops in November.
